Explainer video built for a west coast NBC station depicting the science behind Diablo Winds

Diablo Winds Explainer

This animation illustrated how Diablo Winds form and highlighted the dangers they pose, particularly in relation to wildfire risk. It was supported by custom 3D assets designed for use in augmented reality, giving on-air talent tools to enhance their storytelling.

Diablo winds are hot, dry, and gusty offshore winds that blow from inland toward the coast in Northern California, often increasing wildfire risk.

We used Cinema 4D to lay out and export the scene along with the individual assets for a proprietary AR software.

All scene assets were modeled in Cinema 4D, Blender, and 3ds Max, then textured using Photoshop and the Adobe Substance Collection.

These 3D assets were sourced from free modeling sites, then collected and prepared for use in proprietary AR software.

This explainer video was created for a West Coast NBC station to illustrate the science behind Diablo Winds—hot, dry, and gusty offshore winds that blow from inland toward the California coast and significantly increase wildfire risk. The animation breaks down how these winds form and the dangers they pose, using clear visuals to make complex meteorological concepts accessible to viewers. To support on-air storytelling, I developed a suite of custom 3D assets, optimized for use in augmented reality. These assets gave broadcast talent the flexibility to visually enhance their narratives in real-time. The animation and 3D elements were created primarily in Cinema 4D and After Effects, then integrated into the client’s proprietary AR platform.
